Anyone with a genealogical interest in St. Clair County, Illinois is welcome to subscribe at no cost to the Mail List. Questions and answers regarding research in the county, places to look for information, and queries are all welcome. See important guidelines below regarding Look-ups, ownership, and liability of posted material.
To Subscribe to the St. Clair County Mail List (Bookmark, or print and save these instructions)
1. Send an e-mail message with the word "subscribe" (without the quotation marks) as the only text in two (2) places: a.) the Subject line, and b.) in the body of the message to [email protected]. You will receive a Welcome note which you should print for future reference--this may take some time depending upon "traffic".
2. After you received the Welcome notice, you may then post a message to the St. Clair County ILGenWeb Project Mail List by sending it to [email protected]. [Note the similarity between these two addresses!]
Some e-mail address books will automatically complete an e-mail address when you type the first few letters in the To: area. Be sure your question goes to the List, not the Subscribe area. Note the difference in the e-mail address for subscribing and posting a Mail List question.Digest Mode If you wish to subscribe in DIGEST MODE: mail will be packed together in bundles and delivered every few days. Send the same subscribe message (subscribe) to [email protected]. After you received the Welcome notice, you may then post a message to the St. Clair County ILGenWeb Project Mail List by sending it to [email protected]. "Look-up" requests in specific publications are done by volunteers here.
Be advised that Mail List subscribers are expressly forbidden to post replies from copyrighted sources to look-up requests on the Mail List itself because it is another form of publishing. Those who do post copyrighted material to the Mail List will be removed. You may of course reply privately to the individual but be sure you also include the title, author, publisher and year of the source from which you transcribed the data.
