collections of the St. Clair County Genealogical Society. Featured records include the East St. Louis Journal Obituary Index 1889–1979,
Belleville Newspaper Abstracts 1840–1940, county deed indexes to c1900, St. Clair census on microfilm, family history compilations, county death registers to 1942 and much more.

territorial Kaskaskia, pre-statehood records, and the Perrin Collection. Photocopies

Maintains statewide registration of births and deaths from 1916 onward (see also
the Illinois State Archives and St. Clair County Court House below); a divorce index 1962-forward; marriage index 1962-forward.
Certified copies can be obtained if one can show one's relationship; otherwise,
non-certified copies will be provided for genealogical purposes.) County
clerks may also have birth and death records back to as early as 1878, and St. Clair has Proofs of Births and Deaths back to 1838.

death (from 1878) and marriage licenses. [Note: The SCCGS, in volume 30 of their Quarterly, began running extracts from the death register 1878 - forward , and marriage index with date by bride from 1906.]
Check the courthouse offices for fees.
The Circuit Clerk has probate records (from 1772). With permission from the Circuit Clerk, C. Barney Metz, the St. Clair County Genealogical Society (SCCGS) is currently (7/2007) procuring duplicate microfilm rolls for deposit in the Belleville Public Library for use by the general public. The indexes are already at the BPL. To contribute to purchase of over 900 microfilm rolls ($20.00 each) for this ongoing project, send contributions in any amount to the SCCGS (address below).
The Recorder of Deeds has the grantor-grantee index beginning 1986 online. There are no plans to put earlier indexes online since these are available for the earliest years through c1905 at the Belleville Public Library, and through IRAD.

- The Illinois State Library, 300 South Second Street, Springfield, IL 62701 is the lending arm of the Illinois State Archives. The ISL maintains the largest map collection in the state, much of which may be ordered interlibrary loan.

of Canada and the provincial archives of Quebec maintain material on
